Was out at a campout at the Lost Coast in northern california this weekend, and a few hours before dawn, decided to try my hand at doubles.
One of my favorite things to do with a staff is a good flashy slingoff. With a single staff, it's usually the shoulder throw helix slingoff, wiht doubles, I usually roll them slowly down to my elbow, then flip them up quickly. I was spinning a friends doubles that were lighter than the last pair I'd spun, and had a tenancy to roll off my arms. On my left arm, when I slung off, it sprayed fuel all over my face, flew up, and hit me just to the side of my left eye. Igniting the side of my face.
Ran away from my safety (of course. My FREAKIN FACE WAS ON FIRE) and slapped at it on my knees until I got it out... then was tackled by the safety. Shallow seconds all around the eye, eye ok... mostly blisters with the tops knocked off... so right now I look horrific with a face half-covered in bandages like a gauze rendition of the Phantom of the Opera mask.
Side note. Teflon gauze that doesn't stick to oozing burns are so freaking awesome to me right now.
I didn't get any pics before cleaning the wound due to being in a lot of pain, but I'll snap one or two of the blisters as they develop.
Update after nurse consultation: facial burns are some of the quickest to heal, due to something epithsomethingerther something else, and that they heal quite well with simple care: wash well once a day with soap and cold water, keep moist/disinfected with neosporin and covered in gauze.

Re: to the face
Tue, June 30, 2009 - 12:50 PMWait, so you mean if I don't take pictures, the nightmareish memory of searing pain, seeing only shifting green and orange flames, and the crackling sound of burning hair and flesh will not be real?
you're not making a very good case...
(really, I can't find the camera, we sorta packed up from the campout in a hurry... all face covered with burns on a beach with no ability to wash the wounds and all. I looked some, but I've got a black eye from where the staff hit me in the face, and standing up gives me a headache.) -

Re: to the face
Wed, July 8, 2009 - 11:05 AMsurprisingly well. The areas I was able to keep covered (everything except eyelids, and that hollow above the inside corner of the eye) have basically healed compleatly and are slightly paler than surrounding skin. The areas I couldn't cover are still shedding skin a little and there may be some mild scarring there... Faces heal amazingly well to surface burns. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Wed, July 8, 2009 - 5:47 PMAnd here I was worried you'd have to move into an abandoned auditorium and play the organ all night long while you stalk some opera chick... -
